A tribute to Condoleeza Rice and George W. Bush who, despite voluminious evidence to the contrary, said, "I don't think anybody could have predicted that these people would take an airplane and slam it into the World Trade Center, take another one and slam it into the Pentagon, that they would try to use an airplane as a missile," adding that "even in retrospect" there was "nothing" to suggest that" and "I don't think anyone anticipated the breach of the levees," respectively.

Rice Chides Russia On Democracy

AP) Russia needs to show a commitment to a free press and other "basics of democracy," and cooperate with former Soviet republics such as Georgia and Ukraine where democracy is taking hold, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Saturday.

Her Russian counterpart, in a mild retort, said that he did not consider paying the press to express an opinion favorable to the government to be particularly “free.” He added, that if the last three elections held in the United States exemplify the “basics of democracy,” Russia will have no problem lowering their electoral standards to meet that criterion.

Today's Historical Quote:

If you really want to do something new, the good won’t help you with it. Let me have men about me that are arrant knaves. The wicked, who have nothing on their conscience, are obliging, quick to hear threats, because they know how it’s done, and for booty. You can offer them things because they will take them. Because they have no hesitations. You can hang them if they get out of step. Let me have men about me that are utter villains – provided that I have the power, the absolute power, over life and death. Herman Goering
